About the Artist Mario Sukkar is an award-winning Australian artist from Western Sydney, specialising in portraiture, landscapes and fine art. Working primarily in oils and acrylics, Mario is passionate about creating highly detailed, expressive artworks that capture the character, emotion and story behind his subjects. Mario’s passion for art began at just four years old, when he first picked up a pencil and began drawing stick figures and cartoons. By the age of seven, he had developed a fascination with realistic portraiture, and at eleven he began painting. From that point onward, Mario dedicated countless hours to developing his skills through practice, experimentation and a relentless commitment to his craft. His artistic journey has been recognised through numerous awards, exhibitions and commissions. One of his most significant achievements came in 2014, when he won the Young Archie competition at the Art Gallery of NSW. He was also awarded an Honourable Mention in the Young Archie competition in 2015 and was a finalist in the Young Australian Art Awards in 2012 and 2013. Mario has received recognition in a number of other competitions, including the Westmead Hospital Art Prize, the Bishop Daniel Delany International Art Competition and the Australian Lebanese Association Award for Art-Painting, which he won in 2014. His work has also been recognised through the Mosman Youth Art Prize and the Cumberland Art and Photography Awards, where his painting For the Love of My Country received a Highly Commended award. In 2016, Mario was commissioned to paint the first-ever portrait of the Lord Mayor of Parramatta, Paul Garrard. The original portrait is currently displayed at the Parramatta Heritage Centre. He has also exhibited and demonstrated his work with the Ryde and Parramatta Art Societies. Mario's artwork has also been used to support the wider community. His original Nativity scene, Granville Christmas, was commissioned for Julia Finn MP for Granville and reproduced on 5,000 Christmas cards distributed throughout Western Sydney. He also donated his painting Christ Saving St. Peter to Maronites on Mission, helping raise $5,000 to support people living in poverty overseas. Mario's artistic journey has continued to reach a wider audience through his appearance on Season 2 of the ABC television series Portrait Artist of the Year, where he showcased his portrait-painting skills as part of the acclaimed competition. Today, Mario continues to pursue his passion for portraiture and fine art, creating original paintings and commissioned artworks for private collectors, families, organisations and special occasions. Art has always been Mario's passion, and it is a passion he intends to pursue for the rest of his life. For commissioned artwork, original paintings or prints of Mario's work, please get in touch.
